About me

I am Damián Comas (1984), a visual artist, writer, and filmmaker. I hold a PhD in Literary Creation and a master’s degree in Theoretical Art Studies. Throughout my career, I have embraced a nomadic lifestyle, traveling across continents as a creator, working in painting, installation, screenwriting, and film direction, as well as writing novels. All of this stems from my deep passion for the creation of images and the stories that unfold from them.

My passions are images and words: screenwriting, novels, filmmaking, and visual arts. I have received numerous awards for my work in various disciplines across Europe, America, and Asia. My first novel, Cenizas, won the 19th Hispanic Literature Prize from the University of Seville and was published by Penguin Random House Mondadori. My novel Las verdades infames was also published by Random House and received a grant from the National Fund for the Arts and Culture of the Mexican government. My films have been selected and awarded in festivals around the world, including Italy, Sweden, Australia, the Netherlands, Singapore, and Romania, in a variety of categories.

In the different disciplines of my work, I have received multiple accolades across Europe, America, and Asia. As a screenwriter, I have collaborated with important film production companies, such as REDRUM, the producers of Apocalypto (Mel Gibson, 2006) and Narcos (Netflix, 2015-2017), as well as Spectrum Films, known for producing some of the highest-grossing films in Mexico. I have also worked with Quasar Film, a notable production company based in Friuli Venezia Giulia, Italy.

As a director and writer, I co-wrote the screenplay Sueños de agua with Oscar-nominated Mexican director Carlos Bolado. In 2019, I co-directed the short film Cuerpos de sal, and in 2022, I directed my first feature film Malos Aires. Additionally, I authored and directed the documentary Lacanianos in 2023, both international projects co-produced and distributed between Spain and Italy. Recently, I completed Contro la bellezza, a short film made in collaboration with Italy, Russia, and Uruguay.

In 2019, I participated in the Echoes of a Land exhibition at the 16th Venice Architecture Biennale in Italy. Furthermore, I have been a professor at various universities in Mexico, Spain, and Slovenia, sharing my knowledge and experience in filmmaking and storytelling.

Currently, I live in northern Italy, where I am writing a TV series, collaborating with one of Mexico’s leading production houses, and producing my next feature film. At the same time, I serve as national jury of literature for FONCA (National Fund for Culture and the Arts) in Mexico while developing new projects for the future.
