Damián Comas ignites minds with Cenizas

By Natalia Correa.

Damián Comas is a writer and visual artist born in 1984 in Mexico City. He presents his latest novel Cenizas; a bold and fresh novel that unfolds with the appearance of one of its characters, Julio.

"... the cough of a man walking barefoot can be heard, with such a bitter taste in his blood that the mosquitoes no longer swarm around him."

This simple approach gives us clues and allows us to see a man in a nearly wild state, seemingly stripped of all humanity. But what could be so severe as to take away a person’s humanity? This is one of the questions that arises as the novel begins. At times, it brings to mind echoes of Horacio Quiroga's "The Dead Man."
